Food Excellence canteens are now rolling out the following cashless & contactless solutions

Food Excellence is excited to bring you a suite of cashless & contactless solutions to make lunchtime and breaks more efficient and offering a better experience for students, parents and staff, while minimising unnecessary contact between staff and children.

Tap & Go

Our tap & go system gives the parents an alternative method of paying for their meals at school. It means students do not have to take cash into the school to pay for their meals.

Instead students can purchase our food and drinks using a prepaid smartcard. Total transaction is deducted automatically from the prepaid card account. Credits can be added to the card account either online via your account or on-site, at the canteen till.

You will be able to get detailed information on each item of food served, each top-up made to the card and the current balance via your account.

Click & Collect system

Our Click & Collect feature lets you conveniently pre-order online via your account. It means students do not have to wait in line, and can simply collect their order at the designated collection points or as per arrangement with the schools.

Online orders are prepaid using the credits available on the card. Total online order transaction is deducted automatically from the prepaid card account.

Meal Plan Subscription

Our Meal Plan subscription allows you to buy a block of lunch meals in advance offering great value for the price. Under the Meal Plan each meal unit costs €5.00 and comes with a choice of any main plus drink from our menu. Please note that in addition to available meal plan credits the card balance must not be negative.

In the above instance meal plan credits cannot be redeemed for a meal deal.

In the above instance meal plan credits can be redeemed for a meal deal.

When you buy a meal plan either online or on-site, at our canteens, it is recorded against the card number. Each meal is then redeemed using the smartcard and automatically deducted from the meal plan.

GETTING STARTED

In order for you to access and use any of our cashless & contactless services – Tap & Go, Click & Collect, Meal Plans - you will need to create first an account with Food Excellence and add your child as a card user under this account.

A. Set Up Your Account
1. Create a new account.

To create a new account, you will need to be able to access your email as your email address will become your username for the account and will be used for the verification/confirmation process and to send all account-related communications to you.

  1. Go to our website foodexcellence.ie
  2. Click on the “Login/Register” button.
  3. Click on the “Create an account” button
  4. Enter requested details:
    The account holder name i.e. the parent’s name
    Your email address and create a password.
  5. Complete the activation as detailed on the screen.

Note: A verification email will be sent to the account holder. You will need to click on the link within the email to complete the process and access your account. If you do not receive the verification email within a few minutes please check your junk / spam email folder just in case the email got delivered there instead of your inbox.

You can now login to your account.

2. Add the student as a card user.

Once the account has been created, you can then set up a card user.

  1. Login to your account
  2. Click “Add card user” and follow instructions on screen
  3. Once the card user is created you can set up the daily-spent limit for each of the cardholders.
    Daily spend limit only applies to purchases made at the canteen and not for online orders.

The card is then ready for collection at the canteen on the following school day. The card can only be used for payment if parents have topped up the card beforehand via their account online or on-site.

B. TOP-UP YOUR CARD ACCOUNT

You can top-up your card either online via the account or onsite.

Topping-up online:
  1. Login to your account
  2. Click “Top Up / Meal Plan" button
  3. Select the desired top-up amount for the card you want to top up. You can top up by a combination of amounts and multiple cards at the same time.
  4. Checkout and follow instructions on screen.
Topping-up on site, using cash:
  • The cardholder presents the card to the canteen staff.
  • Top-Up amount is tendered and added to the card.
  • This cash purchase is viewable in the purchase history in the online account.
C. PURCHASE A MEAL PLAN
  1. Login to your account
  2. Click “Top Up / Meal Plan" button
  3. Select the card user
  4. Select the desired meal plan option
  5. Checkout and follow instructions on screen

Your meal plan is now recorded against the card number. In order to redeem the meal units, simply present and tap the card at the canteen point of sale, one unit is deducted from the total number of meals on your plan.
You can also pre-order your meal plan unit(s) online via your account.

Note: It is not possible to purchase a meal plan with cash.

D. PRE-ORDER ONLINE
  1. Login to your account
  2. Click “Pre Order”
  3. Follow the instructions to select the person and day for the order.
  4. Select desired items.
  5. Checkout using the credits available on the card.

The order will be ready for collection at the school’s canteen at the appointed day and time.

You can check and cancel upcoming orders from your account under "Pre order".
